The great American pickup truck doesn’t get much greater or more iconic than the Ford F-Series. They’ve been rolling off the production line, into our hearts, and onto our streets since 1948. And the F-150 has arguably been the most famous model ever since it debuted in 1975.
But nothing’s so iconic that it couldn’t be improved with some mods. Of course, if you want to swap out the factory wheels for something more epic, you need to know your F-150’s bolt pattern.
That’s where
Jerry

2014 F-150 bolt pattern

The bolt pattern for most F-150s since 2002 has been 6x5.3, or 6 on 5.3. But what on earth does that mean?
If you’re new to the world of bolt patterns, don’t worry, we can explain. Every bolt pattern or lug pattern can be described as:
# of bolts x diameter of the circle they form
A 6x5.3 lug pattern means that your Ford’s wheels have six lugs each, set in a circle 5.3 inches in diameter.
So, how does that help and what else do you need to know before you upgrade your wheels? It’s also important to know your truck’s stud size, wheel offset, center bore measurement, and torque specifications:
  • Factory wheel size: 17”
  • Stud size: M14 x 2.0
  • Offset: -44 to 44 mm
  • Center bore: 87.1 mm
  • Wheel tightening torque: 204 Nm
None of that might have made much sense, but it’s important to note—you will need it!

How to measure your Ford F-150’s bolt pattern

Now you’ve got all the information you need to swap out the standard F-150 wheels for something a bit more suited to your tastes and requirements. But what if you want to try and double-check the bolt pattern for yourself?
To do so, you need a measuring tape (a ruler will do but a tape measure is definitely easier). Pick a bolt (any bolt!) and measure from the outer edge of the lug hole to the center of the opposite bolt
That measurement is your diameter. Put that together with the number of bolts, and you’ve got your bolt pattern!

How to optimize your Ford’s insurance coverage

Some people stick with the standard setup on their vehicles from the day they buy them till the day they replace them. But where’s the fun in that? It’s possible to upgrade both the look and the performance of a Ford F-150 with some well-chosen mods.
And this won’t just make it look better and drive better while you’re using it, it may also add to the value if you do it well. That means you’ll need one more upgrade: better
