2012 Toyota Corolla LE engine oil capacity

You first need to know how much oil your 2012 Corolla needs for this oil change.
The 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine of the Toyota Corolla LE takes 4.4 quarts or 4.2 liters of engine oil. How does it have a 1.8-liter engine when it holds so much oil, you ask? 1.8 is the engine displacement, or how much volume the cylinders take up in the engine. So the engine oil capacity is how much oil it can hold; that is what you need to know for the oil change.

What kind of oil does a 2012 Toyota Corolla LE need?

To most of us, all the engine oils look the same. However, your 2012 Corolla needs a specified type of oil to keep its engine running smoothly. Toyota recommends going with their brand of oil, Toyota Genuine SAE 0W-20 Full-Synthetic motor oil.
Every engine needs something different, and your Corolla requires engine oil with the lowest cold start viscosity on the market. 0W is the viscosity (thickness) rating for cold engine starts and in cold weather—W represents winter. 20 is the viscosity rating for when the engine is boiling hot.
Keep in mind that veering away from the manufacturer's recommendation can void any potential warranties.

How often to change oil on a 2012 Toyota Corolla LE

Now that you are about to be an oil-changing expert, you need to know how often to
change your oil
.
Toyota recommends changing your 2012 Corolla oil every 3,000 - 5,000 miles
The oil change frequency is just a suggestion. They assume most drivers use the recommended oil and drive the standard 12,000 miles per year. If you selected a lower grade oil, like a synthetic blend oil, or regularly drive 15,000 miles per year or more, your engine oil will have a short life span.
On the other hand, if you selected a high-quality motor oil and are a low mileage driver, you might be able to stretch your Corolla oil change to 7,500-10,000 miles.
It can be hard to decide when to change your oil, so here are some signs that an oil change is needed:

How to change your oil and oil filter

You recently checked your oil and found it dark and gritty. Now it’s finally time to change that oil!  Here is a list of the materials you should have on hand ahead of time:
  • Socket wrench
  • Filter wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Replacement washer
  • Replacement filter
  • 0W-20 full synthetic engine oil
The oil change will go faster if the engine oil is warm, so run the car for about five minutes. Once your Corolla engine is at the normal operating temperature, park it on level ground, pop the hood, and get started!
  • Remove the oil fill cap and then get under the car
  • Place an oil drain pan under the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer
  • Let the oil drain into the pan
  • Take out the old oil filter and put in the new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer
  • Refill the engine with your new oil and put the oil fill cap back on
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Once you are done, examine the dipstick to ensure the engine has the appropriate oil level and run the car for a few minutes. You will want to check leaks and give the oil pressure light time to shut off.
All that is left is clean-up! To properly dispose of the dirty oil, carefully pour it into the empty oil cans. You can recycle the dirty oil at your local recycling center or contact an auto parts store like AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts with oil recycling programs.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
