2014 Toyota Camry engine oil capacity

The first thing you might ask yourself is, how much engine oil does a 2014 Toyota Camry need?
The 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine of the Toyota Camry takes 4.6 quarts or 4.4 liters of engine oil. It’s slightly confusing since the Camry has a 2.5-liter engine, but that refers to the engine displacement, not engine oil capacity. The displacement is how much volume cylinders take up, while 4.6 quarts is how much engine oil you need to purchase.

What kind of oil does a 2014 Toyota Camry need?

We are one step closer to that oil change, but first, let’s talk about what kind of oil you should buy. The options seem endless in the auto parts store, and picking the cheapest oil on the shelf isn’t the best. Toyota recommends going with their brand of oil, Toyota Genuine SAE 0W-20 Full-Synthetic motor oil.
What do all those numbers mean? Glad you asked! 0W is the viscosity (thickness) rating for cold engine starts and in cold weather—W represents winter. 20 is the viscosity rating for when the engine is hot. The key to good engine performance is oil that is thin enough when it is cold, but thick enough to provide protection when it is blazing hot.
It is important to note that going outside the manufacturer's recommendation can
void your car's warranty
if it causes engine trouble. That being said, the owner's manual recommends temporarily using SAE 5W-20 motor oil in the event that you are unable to find 0W-20 oil.

How often to change oil on a 2014 Toyota Camry

Another factor to consider when determining how much an oil change will cost is how often it needs changing. Toyota recommends changing your 2014 Camry oil every 3,000-5,000 miles
Keep in mind, that the oil change frequency is just a recommendation. For example, if you choose to go with a synthetic blend oil instead of full synthetic oil, you may have saved money at the time of purchase, but you will need to change your oil within those guidelines. On the other hand, if you selected a high-quality motor oil, you might be able to stretch the oil change to 7,500-10,000miles.
Get to know your car and how quickly it goes through oil by checking your dipstick at every other fuel up. Take a look at this checklist to learn when its time for an oil change:
  • Oil changed from light brown/amber to dark brown or black
  • Oil feels gritty
  • Worrisome or
    loud engine sounds

  • Burning smells
  • Performance changes

How to change your oil and oil filter

Time to change your oil! Here is a list of the materials you should have on hand:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement filter
  • 0W-20 full synthetic engine oil
  • New washer
The oil change will go faster with warm oil, so run your Camry for about five minutes. Once your car is at average operating temperature, park it on level ground, pop the hood, and get started!
  • Remove the oil fill cap and then get under the car
  • Place the oil drain pan under the engine, remove the oil drain bolt and washer, and let the oil drain into the pan
  • Take out the old oil filter
  • Put in the
    new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with your new oil and put the oil fill cap back on
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
That is all there is to it! Inspect the dipstick to ensure you added enough engine oil, and run the car for a few minutes. This is the best way to check leaks and give the
oil pressure light
time to shut off.
As for clean-up, carefully pour the dirty engine oil into the empty oil cans. The oil from just one oil change can be bad for the environment if disposed of improperly. Recycle it at your local recycling center or contact an auto parts store like AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts with oil recycling programs and Mother Earth will thank you!
