2010 Ford Fusion engine oil capacity

Your 2010 Ford Fusion engine oil capacity depends on which engine is powering your Fusion. The four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine has a capacity of 5.3 quarts, or 5 liters, whereas the 3.0-liter V6 engine requires 6 quarts or 5.7 liters. Finally, the 3.5-liter V6 engine on the Sport model has an engine oil capacity of 5.5 quarts or 5.2 liters.
It’s important not to confuse your Fusion engine’s displacement — the 2.5, 3.0, or 3.5 liters of volume its cylinders take up — with its oil capacity, the amount of oil needed for each oil change.

What kind of oil does a 2010 Ford Fusion need?

Not all engine oils are the same, so make sure you’ve got the right grade and specification before grabbing the first five-liter bottle off the shelf. For your 2010 Ford Fusion, Ford recommends using Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil in your engine.
Let’s break down what exactly “SAE 5W-20” means. SAE stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers–or the entity that codes oil viscosity. The numbers refer to the oil’s viscosity, while the “W” stands for winter. The number 5 indicates that the oil has a low viscosity at 0°F, while the number 20 means it’s also thin at 212°F.
Essentially, you want to use an oil that will perform well in cold weather conditions but with low enough viscosity to cut back on wear and tear to your engine
  • Ford’s recommendation: If you want to stick to the manufacturer’s instructions, use Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil.
  • Alternative recommendation: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil

How often to change the oil on a 2010 Ford Fusion

Ford suggests changing your 2010 Ford Fusion oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles to keep it clean and functional. For most people, this is about every six months
Regardless, checking your oil about once a month is a good idea. If you notice any of the following, it may be time for an oil change:
  • Your oil is dark brown or black in color
  • The texture of the oil is coarse or gritty
  • There are unfamiliar noises coming from the engine
  • You notice new smells, particularly oil, smoke, or burning
  • Any changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Changing your oil and oil filter from home is easier than you might think. All you’ll need is a drain pan, socket wrench, a replacement filter, and a filter wrench to remove your old oil filter. Lastly, don’t forget five to six quarts of premium 5W-20 engine oil
Next up, follow these simple steps:
  • Run your Ford Fusion for about five minutes to warm it up.
  • Unscrew your oil fill cap and set it aside somewhere safe
  • From underneath the engine, remove the oil drain bolt and washer while draining the old oil into your drain pan
  • Take out the old oil filter and install the new one
  • Replace the oil drain bolt with a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with your new Ford Fusion engine oil and replace the fill cap
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
To make sure the engine has enough oil, check the level with the dipstick. You can then run the engine for a few minutes and watch for leaks. If all has gone according to plan, you should see your dashboard’s oil pressure light go off.
To dispose of your engine oil, you’ll place it in a sealed container and drop it off at your local recycling center. Do not dump the dirty oil onto the ground or in your garbage bin, as this could harm the environment.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
