How do I add transmission fluid to a Honda Odyssey?

I’m having trouble shifting gears in my Honda Odyssey. I called my dad and he said I should check and add transmission fluid to my car. I’ve never added transmission fluid before, so how do I do it? What’s the easiest way to add transmission fluid in a Honda Odyssey?

Difficulty changing gears is one sign that your vehicle may be low on transmission fluid. Thankfully, it’s a fairly easy process. Even so, if you feel overwhelmed at any point, don’t hesitate to take your car to a mechanic.
If you’d like to give it a go, here’s how to add transmission fluid to a
Honda Odyssey
:
  1. Go for a quick drive to warm up the vehicle. Park the car on an even surface level and shift through all the gears.
  2. Turn off the car.
  3. Pop
    open the hood
. Be careful when touching any vehicle parts as they may be hot after driving.
  4. Locate the dipstick. It will be on the driver’s side with a yellow loop at the top. Pull the dipstick out and use a paper towel or lint-free rag to clean fluid off the dipstick.
  5. Put the dipstick back. Take it out again to get an accurate reading.
  6. At the end of the dipstick are two holes. Note where the fluid levels are on the dipstick between the upper and lower marks. Refer to your owner’s manual for the correct fluid level.
  7. If the transmission fluid is low, put a funnel in your dipstick tube and slowly pour in Honda-specific transmission fluid. The transmission fluid capacity can quickly get full. Too much fluid is just as problematic as having too little transmission fluid.
  8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to check the fluid level. Pour fluid until it hits the top line on your dipstick.
  9. Once full, remove the funnel and put the dipstick back in the dipstick tube. Make sure you push the dipstick in completely to ensure it is properly in place.
