Why your 2003 Acura TL needs a radio code

Before we go searching for the radio code, let’s first do a quick once-over about what is and why it’s important. You may not know it, but your radio is actually one of the most frequently stolen vehicle components, and the radio code is a security measure to help prevent theft.
Any time you disconnect your 2003 Acura TL’s battery, it will ask you to enter a radio code before you can return to using your sound system. It’s simple: no radio code means no music—and what thief would want a useless radio?
But, that said, if you’re the one who doesn’t know the radio code, you could be the one dealing with a lot of silent car rides.

How to find your 2003 Acura TL radio code

Luckily, there are a couple of different places you can check for your 2003 Acura TL’s radio code. It will be written on a sticker that’s either inside the wall of your glove box, on the underside of your engine’s fuse box cover, on your owner’s manual, on your vehicle’s door jamb, or on the trunk jamb
Although you may find other numbers on the sticker, you’re looking specifically for a five-digit code.
Can’t find it? No worries, you can still look it up!

How to look up a 2003 Acura TL radio code

If that magic sticker with the code eludes you, you won’t be locked out of your radio forever. You can search for your Acura radio code by
VIN (vehicle identification number)
and by radio serial number—and we’ll show you how to find both!
First up: your VIN. This 17-digit code can be found in many different places on your Acura, like at the base of your front windshield, on your insurance statement, or on any official paperwork you received from your local Acura dealership.
To find your radio serial number, get ready to press some buttons. Here’s a step-by-step on how to find it:
  • Turn your 2003 Acura TL’s ignition on
  • Turn on your radio and make sure that the display reads “CODE.” If it doesn’t, you’ll need to pull the backup fuse for a minute and try again.
  • Turn your radio off
  • Press and hold all six radio preset buttons and turn the radio back on
  • On the first screen, you’ll see a code that displays a “U” followed by 4 digits; and on the second screen, you’ll see another code that begins with “L” and is also followed by 4 digits.
  • Disregard the U and the L. The remaining 8 digits comprise your radio serial number.
And, lastly, with those two numbers at the ready, you’re able to search for what you’ve been looking for all along—your 2003 Acura TL’s radio code! There are a couple of different places you can find it:
  • Use Acura’s
    online lookup tool
  • Call (800) 382-2238, Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 5:00pm Pacific
