1997 Ford Ranger bolt pattern

The bolt pattern for a 1997 Ford Ranger is 5x4.5
If you aren’t familiar with bolt patterns that might not mean much to you. Every bolt pattern (also called a lug pattern) can be expressed as:
# of bolts x the diameter of the circle they would form if connected
So, a 5x4.5 bolt pattern tells you that your Ford Ranger has five lugs per wheel, spaced around an imaginary circle that is 4.5 inches in diameter.
When shopping for new rims, knowing your bolt pattern is important, but it’s not the only measure that you need. You also need to know your stud size, wheel offset, center bore measurement, and, torque specifications:
  • Factory wheel size: usually 14” or 15”
  • Stud size: Metric–12x1.25 (diameter x thread size in mm), Imperial–1/2x20 (1/2 inch stud with 20 threads per inch)
  • Offset: +12 mm
  • Center bore: 70.5 mm
  • Wheel tightening torque: 135 Nm

How to measure your Ford Ranger’s bolt pattern

The above measurements should be sufficient for replacing your old wheels with a new set. But, if you want to check your Ford Ranger’s bolt pattern, there’s a handy trick for measuring it for yourself. All you need is a measuring tape or ruler.
Pick any bolt and measure from the outer edge of the lug hole to the center of one of the opposing lug holes. Since the Ford Ranger has five lug holes, this will give you an accurate measurement of the circle’s diameter without any guesswork.
Put that measurement together with the bolt count, and voila! You have your lug pattern.
