2009 Hyundai Accent engine oil capacity

Let’s talk about engine oil capacity or the amount of oil you’ll need to fill your 2009 Hyundai Accent engine.
The 2009 Hyundai Accent’s engine oil capacity is 3.48 quarts or 3.3 liters. If you are checking your owner’s manual, make sure you aren’t getting your engine’s displacement which is the volume of the cylinders rather than how much oil your Hyundai Accent needs.

What kind of oil does a 2009 Hyundai Accent need?

Now that we’ve covered how much engine oil your Hyundai Accent needs, let’s move on to the oil type. Your 2009 Hyundai Accent takes 5W-20 synthetic oil which is a low viscosity oil.
Low viscosity oil performs well in cold weather conditions and reduces engine wear and tear. The “W” means winter and the numbers indicate the oil viscosity at the engine starting and operating temperatures.
Just knowing the type of oil your Accent needs isn’t enough when not all engine oils are created equal. That’s why we have our top three choices for the Hyundai Accent below:
  • Manufacturer recommendation: The owner’s manual recommends Quaker State SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Oil for your vehicle.

How often to change the oil on a Hyundai Accent

Hyundai recommends you change your Accent’s oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. We know that’s quite a range but that’s why you should check your engine oil once a month to make sure you are changing the oil when it is necessary. Look out for oil contaminants and low levels.
Here are some other signs you may need an oil change:
  • Exhaust smoke when you drive
  • Reduced performance
  • Check engine light or oil pressure light on your dashboard
  • Burning smell
  • Unfamiliar knocking noises coming from the engine
  • Textured oil

How to change your oil and oil filter

Before you can change your Accent’s oil, you’ll need to gather a few tools. Once you get a socket and filter wrench, a drain pan, and of course, a replacement filter and 3.48 quarts of 5W-20 motor oil, you’re ready to start your do-it-yourself oil change.
  • Remove the oil cap
  • Disconnect the drain bolt and washer
  • Drain the old oil into the drain pan
  • Remove the old oil filter before you install the new filter
  • Reconnect the drain bolt and washer
  • Fill the engine with the new oil
After you have completed the above steps, check your engine oil levels with your dipstick and make sure you don’t have any leaks. Another way you’ll know you have successfully changed the oil in your Accent, is if the oil warning lights turn off.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Now all that is left to do is clean up! Just pour the old oil into a sealed container and dispose of it at your local recycling center.
