8 Top Porsche Macan Competitors

The 2022 Porsche Macan offers an undeniably exciting driving experience. But what about fuel efficiency? Price? Cargo space? See how the competition stacks up!

background
The Porsche Macan has top-tier engine options, incredibly nimble handling, and the best overall driving experience for a small luxury SUV. However, while the competitors may not be as fun to drive, they do use other specifications to their advantage.
There’s no doubt that the Porsche Macan is a stunning vehicle, but let’s give the competition credit where credit is due. Continue reading to see how
Jerry
, the super app that saves drivers time and money on
car insurance
, has distributed its kudos across 8 small luxury SUVs that go head-to-head with the Mecan in 2022.
And whether you need
Porsche Macan car insurance
or you decide to go with a competitor, we’ve got you covered on that, too!

1. Acura RDX

Starting price: $40,600 to $53,300
Selling points: Standout style that feels like a steal
Weak spot: Underwhelming interior luxury
When looking at the 2022
Acura RDX’s
vortex-style grille, it's easy to get lost in a trance. This is just one of the many features that make the RDX one of the most visually exciting models in the small luxury SUV category. The Macan’s elegant curvature is undoubtedly appealing, but there’s just something about the RDX’s exterior sharpness that provides a bit of eccentric attitude.
But what about on the inside? Well, the interior doesn’t look that much different than the Honda Civic (that’s a compliment to the economy sedan put out by Acura’s parent company, but not so much a compliment for a luxury SUV).
But for us, the bland interior isn’t a deal breaker. The RDX offers undeniable value—it starts at $15,000 less than the Macan.

2. Audi Q5

Starting price: $43,300 to $45,800
Selling points: Audi’s best-seller, efficient with fuel and cost
Weak spot: Small like the Macan
What the
Audi Q5
and Porsche Macan sacrifice in size, they make up for with undeniable luxury and unbeatable entry-level performance. The catch? The Q5 starts at about $10,000 cheaper.
And speaking of savings, the 2022 Audi Q5 also has a 362-hp plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model that can cover 23 miles in all-electric mode before switching to gasoline. And even then, its combined 25 mpg far outpaces the underwhelming 19 mpg of the Macan
On the contrary, if you prioritize speed over efficiency, the Macan does offer a more powerful 434 hp twin-turbo V6 as its top-tier engine option. So when discussing the Macan vs. Q5, it all comes down to how you rank price, power, and efficiency.

3. BMW X3

Starting price: $43,700 to $57,800
Selling points: Spacious and speedy
Weak spot: Performance can get pricey
The 2022
BMW X3
makes switching to an SUV fun! It offers a spacious 62.7 cubic feet of maximum cargo space and can be souped up to go zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds. That’s a pretty good compromise if you ask us!
However, getting it in this form (
M40i
with a 382-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine and AWD) will cost you about $15,000 over starting price. If it’s any consolation, this inflated price is still almost cheaper than the entry-level model of the Porsche Macan.

4. Genesis GV70

Starting price: $41,500 to $53,100
Selling points: Unique exterior styling and new brand smell
Weak spot: Uncompelling infotainment system
Brand means a lot in the world of luxury vehicles. Drivers connect deeply with their preferred automotive company, rational or irrational. So while it’s hard to chip away market share from any loyal following, new brand
Genesis GV70
is undoubtedly putting its best foot forward.
The GV70 is an exceptionally well-rounded option that is hard to ignore. It combines awe-inspiring entry-level horsepower 300 hp with a unique exterior that is all its own
So even though Genesis doesn’t yet have the same brand clout as more established names, it is certainly catching more and more eyes. The only thing that could use some tweaking is the clunky infotainment system.

5. Jaguar F-Pace

Starting price: $50,900 to $65,500
Selling points: Industry-leading space and iconic style
Weak spot: Comparably, pretty slow
The 2022
Jaguar F-Pace
offers an industry-leading 69.1 cubic feet of cargo space. But this SUV is meant for much more than just hauling stuff around.
Its features are dripping in luxury. The diamond-stitched leather upholstery, 19-inch Style 5023 design wheels, and inspiring colors like Fuji White and Santorini Black all contribute to its elegance.
However, when it comes to small luxury SUVs, it’s not all about looks—it’s about performance, too. Unfortunately, this is where the Jaguar F-pace falls short. Even top trims can only achieve a zero to sixty speed of 5.8 seconds. A fully souped-up Macan leaves it in the dust by 1.7 seconds.

6. Lexus NX

Starting price: $38,350 to $49,400
Selling points: Highly efficient PHEV model
Weak spot: Nothing flashy, just traditional leather luxury
One whiff of the NuLuxe leather upholstery and you know you’re in a
Lexus NX
. The classic feel will please the traditionalist, but innovative features will welcome new buyers.
The NX 450h+ is a PHEV variant that can achieve 84 MPGe and 36 miles of all-electric range. This is impressive on its own. But considering the Macan doesn’t dabble in the PHEV space at all, just having the option is a competitive advantage.

7.  Lincoln Corsair

Starting price: $36,580 to $43,710
Selling points: Affordable access to luxury
Weak spot: You get what you pay for
The conservative appearance of the
Lincoln Corsair
matches its unconvincing driving experience. It really shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as the Porsche Macan, but a low relative price point keeps it on the relevance radar. But we won’t tell grandpa that.

8. Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

Starting price: $43,850 to $45,850
Selling points: Brand clout and clouds of comfort
Weak spot: Unprioritzed engine
Is there really anything better than rolling around town with that silver three-pointed star on your grille? That street cred of driving a
Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class
is off the charts. But name only gets you so far. Does the 2022 model walk the walk, too?
From the inside, the answer is a clear yes. It perfectly combines old-school luxury and comfort with innovative tech and modern design flares. But with only one 255-hp engine option, it doesn’t stand a chance against the performance capacity of the Porsche Macan.

Porsche Macan vs. the competition

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
