8 Top Porsche Cayenne Competitors

The Porsche Cayenne faces some fierce competition from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and other premium makers.

If you want a luxury SUV that also performs like a sports car, the Audi Q8, Jaguar F Pace, and BMW X5 are just a few of the fabulous options out there that can give the Porsche Cayenne a run for its money.
The addition of SUVs and sedans to Porsche’s lineup caused a bit of a kerfuffle among sports and race car purists, but no matter how the gearheads feel about it, they seem to be here to stay. The Porsche Cayenne is an SUV like no other — 19 available models, five engine options, and anywhere from 335 to 631 horsepower at your disposal. It’s got a price tag to match as well, starting at anywhere from $72,200 to $188,700 for the top trim levels.
But depending on what your priorities are, you might find that one of the Cayenne’s competitors is the splendid SUV for you. To help out with the quality problem of picking a luxury performance SUV is Jerry, the trustworthy broker app and your source for both

1. BMW X5

Starting price: $61,595 to $84,095
Selling points: Upscale BMW experience, multiple great powertrain choices
Weak spot: Third row strictly for the kids (or dogs)
The
BMW X5
is a midsize luxury affair that can seat up to seven people, provided the ones in the back are kids or kid-sized. The X5 is an artful blend of performance, style, and that unmistakable BMW feel. The X5 does have a third row of seats, but it’s not going to be comfortable for adults. That said, the interior is full of upscale materials and well-integrated tech
Three different powertrains (including a plug-in hybrid) are available, and BMW performance is in the house for all three. Zero to 60 times are around 4-5 seconds depending on engine type, which will allow you to get off the line at the grocery store before the ice cream’s even started to melt.

2. Audi Q8

Starting price: $71,995 to $82,895
Selling points: Stylish and comfortable
Weak spot: Comparatively sluggish acceleration in city driving, less practical than the Q7
The
Audi Q8
shares the same platform as the Cayenne, so the driving experience is going to feel similarly fabulous here. Reviewers noted a lack of power compared to some of its more athletic rivals, but it’s still going to drive like a performance SUV.
The Audi Q8 is cooler and sportier than the
three-row Audi Q7
and several of its rivals but sacrifices cargo space and the third row of seats to get there. There’s only one engine choice here, but it’s no slouch — the 335 horsepower V6 will get you from 0 to 60 in a brisk 5.3 seconds.

3. Mercedes-Benz GLE Class

Starting price: $56,150 to $80,900
Selling points: Spacious interior, high-quality cabin materials
Weak spot: Adding features gets expensive fast
The
Mercedes-Benz GLE Class
also has a cramped optional third row of seats. That said, anyone lucky enough to ride in the first two rows will be enveloped in roomy comfort, with supportive seats, lots of high-end materials, and heated everything, including the armrests and center console lid.
The GLE Class also has some decent off-roading potential as well, if you dare to get the lovely thing muddy. All-wheel drive and an optional air suspension will make sure you get in and out of tricky spots with comfort, and the stellar tech in the cabin will make you forget you’re roughing it.

4. Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Starting price: $83,000 to $104,200
Selling points: Range Rover style and functionality
Weak spot: Range Rover sticker price
As Car and Driver put it, the
Range Rover Sport
is “at home both on Rodeo Drive and at the rodeo.” If you like the idea of having an SUV that’s both insanely luxurious and deeply capable off-road, then a Land Rover might be the brand for you.
The price tag is heftier than many rivals and reflects the fact that driving a Range Rover carries a certain weight in and of itself. But you’re getting a sleekly-tailored exterior, an interior that’s posh and comfortable, and sporty handling with peppy acceleration. Combine that with standard all-wheel drive, up to 9.9 inches of ground clearance, and up to 22 inches of wading depth, and you’ve got a luxury SUV that’s still more than ready to get down and dirty.

5. Jaguar F-Pace

Starting price: $52,400 to $89,500
Selling points: Refined luxury, good cargo space
Weak spot: Less towing capacity than many rivals
If you’re looking for a good balance of performance, luxury, and practicality, then there might be a
Jaguar F-Pace
in your future. It handles and drives like a much smaller vehicle, but offers SUV-level cargo capability beneath its sleek exterior. With three engines available, you’ll get Jaguar performance at all levels, but those wanting to lean into the sports car side of the spectrum will like the V8, which delivers 516 horsepower and goes from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds.
Its 5,291-pound towing capacity is far less than that of competitors, which could be a dealbreaker if you need a workhorse.

6. Volvo XC-90

Starting price: $51,995 to $72,195
Selling points: Peppy PHEV option, luxurious look and feel, lots of safety features
Weak spot: Not the most fun to drive, unremarkable towing capacity
If kids are part of the equation, then the
Volvo XC-90
is a strong contender. Volvo is renowned for its safety ratings, and the XC-90 has a five-star rating from the NHTSA and was a Top Safety Pick of the IIHS. The third row will be strictly for the little ones, but the generous amount of safety tech and features will make sure they’re snug as a bug.
The interior is gorgeous, and while it’s not the most exciting to drive among its rivals, the Volvo XC-90’s luxurious feel, family-friendly features, and value made it a favorite of many reviewers

7. Genesis GV 80

Starting price: $55,550 to $78,600
Selling points: Insanely comfortable ride, lots of standard features
Weak spot: Base-level engine lacks guts
Another strong entry in the “family-friendly” category is the Genesis GV 80. As a fairly new brand, Genesis has a lot of well-established competition when it comes to luxury SUVs, but it's assertively making a name for itself. Like the Volvo, the GV80 also gets high marks for its safety ratings and a wealth of standard features. Its third row is a bit cramped, but not any more than that of any of its competitors.
It doesn’t have the sheer performance of something like the Cayenne, but its relentless luxury and smooth, refined ride earned the Genesis GV 80 a 10/10 from Car and Driver

8. Bentley Bentayga

Starting price: $167,000 to $263,00 (estimated)
Selling points: Bentley prestige
Weak spot: Hefty price tag, few standard driver assist features
This is an SUV done Bentley-style: a bottle cooler in the back, a mother-of-pearl-faced Breitling clock in the dashboard, and a biometric safe for your passports and stacks of cash. Speaking of cash, Bentley’s website doesn’t list prices (red flag!); the ones given here are industry and reviewer estimates.
At a top speed of 190 mph, it’s also one of the fastest production cars out there. If you want an SUV that simply shrieks luxury, then pop in your monocle and have a gander at the Bentayga.
The kids will fit in the back seat, but please — no snacking.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
