How to get your Mercury auto insurance ID card

Once you sign up for an insurance policy with Mercury, you will automatically be mailed a copy of your insurance ID card. But if you’ve misplaced the original copy, you can always request a new one from your insurer by mail. Alternatively, you can ask your agent to email a copy to print out at home.
You can also access your Mercury insurance ID card online at any time by signing into your account. Mercury customers can even download a copy of the card using the Mercury Insurance app, which grants you access to a digital version of your ID card.

What’s included in your Mercury insurance card

Your insurance ID card proves you’ve purchased your state’s minimum insurance requirements. Each insurance provider and state has different requirements, but the ID card typically won’t show your specific coverages, what the limits are for each, or how much you pay for them—rather, your insurance ID card includes your information, details about your vehicle, and your policy number, along with:
  • The name and address of your insurance company (i.e., Mercury)
  • The company’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) number
  • Named insured’s first and last name
  • Your vehicle’s make, model, and vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • The policy number
  • The start date and expiration date of your policy
  • Claim’s phone number
  • Roadside assistance phone number
If you’re trying to find more detailed information on your policy (like your coverage limits or deductibles), you’ll have to log into your online account or speak directly with your agent.

Can you show proof of insurance on your phone?

As with many insurance companies, Mercury Insurance’s mobile app lets customers download a digital copy of their insurance ID card right to their smartphone—but will it still count as proof of insurance?
In most states, yes, digital proof of insurance is accepted. But if you live in
New Mexico
, make sure to have a physical copy of the card in your glove compartment—as New Mexico law does not consider digital ID cards as valid
proof of insurance
.
Massachusetts
is another state that does not require ID cards at all; however this will not be a problem since Mercury Insurance doesn’t write policies for these two states
