Why does my car jerk when coming to a stop?
Recently, my car has been jerking whenever it comes to a stop. It’s never done this before. Why would this be happening?

The two most likely reasons your vehicle jerks when coming to a stop are:
- Issues with your car’s transmission: When slowing to a stop, your vehicle must shift gears. A bad transmission (or one that’s low on transmission fluid) can cause a jerking sensation in the cabin when switching between gears. If you suspect the transmission is to blame, check the level of your car’s transmission fluid first.
- Issues with your car’s brakes:The brakes may have become worn down, making braking feel less smooth. It could also be an issue with your brake lines, rotors, or anti-lock brake system.
While transmission and brake problems are the most common culprits behind jerky stopping, they aren’t the only possible causes. Other problems—such as dirty fuel injectors—can also contribute to less-than-smooth stopping in your vehicle.
If you can’t determine what’s causing the issue for yourself, it’s best to bring your vehicle to a mechanic or auto shop as soon as possible to have the problem diagnosed by a professional.
