Where do I find the passkey to connect a Bluetooth device to my BMW?
So I’m a breeder of German Shorthaired Pointers, and we (the dogs and I) spend our days sticking our noses wherever our hearts desire—we love hunting around for things. But try as I might, I just can’t seem to track down the passkey to connect my phone to our new X5. My dogs won’t keep quiet in the car unless they hear their favorite—Alexander von Schlippenbach—so I need to find this passkey. Where do I find the passkey to connect a Bluetooth device to my BMW?

You can find the BMW Bluetooth passkey in the owner’s manual. But if you like hunting around, or if one of your German Shorthaired Pointers made off with your X5’s owner’s manual, there is another easy—but slightly more active—way to find your Bluetooth passkey.
On most BMWs, the Bluetooth passkey is written on the Bluetooth module itself, which is usually located at the rear of the vehicle. Here’s how to find it:
- Pop the trunk
- Inside the trunk, the interior trim on one side will have a removable panel covering the amplifier
- Remove the panel, and you’ll see the Bluetooth module next to the amplifier
- The module will have a sticker on it with PK written on it, and a four digit number beside it—that’s your Bluetooth passkey!
Now, you and your crew of German Shorthaired Pointers will be able to drive in peace as your cats get their fill of von Schlippenbach.
