Toyota’s luxury line, Lexus, recently revealed an offroad version of the
Lexus LX 600
. The only catch? It’s only available in Japan and was primarily revealed as a way to show off aftermarket parts from supplier company JAOS.
While American buyers won’t have access to this rugged luxury SUV, it’s possible that Lexus may decide to start selling its offroad version of the Lexus LX 600 in the near future.
From eye-catching 18-inch rims to its three locking differentials, the Lexus LX 600 Offroad is a capable vehicle that will certainly be popular in Japan. With some help from
Car and Driver
, get the lowdown on Lexus’ new addition to its international lineup—hopefully, Lexus dealerships in the U.S. will start offering models in time.

The Lexus LX 600 steps up its game

Known officially as the Lexus LX 600 Offroad, this Japanese-exclusive SUV offers a stunning combination of luxury and performance. Though there are few mechanical changes to the vehicle, it comes with some added features that the conventional LX 600 lacks, including:
  • 20-inch titanium-gold wheels wrapped in knobby Toyo Open Country A/T III 285/55R20 all-terrain tires
  • Lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer front and rear skid plates for lightweight durability and performance
  • Carbon-fiber-reinforced tire arches
  • Three locking front, center, and rear differentials for added trail and hill-climbing ability
This luxury alternative to the Land Cruiser is a shame to miss in the U.S., especially since Toyota will no longer be offering Land Cruiser models in North America due to its lack of popularity with American buyers. But it’s possible that the Lexus LX 600 Offroad may become a viable alternative, one that hopefully arrives in the U.S. and Canada soon.

Why didn’t the Lexus LX 600 Offroad receive any engine upgrades?

As mentioned above, Lexus added a lot of performance parts to both the body and the undercarriage of the LX 600 Offroad, but noticeably didn’t alter the engine. But don’t worry—that’s because the LX 600 already comes outfitted with a 3.4-liter V-6 combined with a hefty 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine puts out over 400 horsepower and almost 500 lb-ft of torque
While the LX 600 Offroad may only be a way for Lexus to experiment and collaborate with aftermarket supplier JAOS, Lexus LX 600 owners have the option to outfit their conventional LX 600 with similar parts, but they’ll need to hunt wisely.
Purchasing aftermarket parts for your car, truck or SUV
can affect your vehicle’s warranty
, and if there are any mechanical issues with your vehicle, you may be liable for the damage if it’s determined that your add-ons were to blame. The best way to customize your LX 600 is to reach out to your local dealership to inquire about licensed parts from certified suppliers.
