With so many cars available in today's market,
car buying
is more stressful than ever. Drivers that want a lot of luxury combined with off-roading abilities might have a perfect fit with a Land Rover vehicle. All those perks come with a price though, and some trims can end up costing around $100,000 or more.
According to
Consumer Reports
, even a cheap Land Rover might not even be worth your money. The site showed that Land Rover is one of the worst car brands in terms of overall quality this year. Should you avoid Land Rovers on your next trip to the dealership?

Which Land Rovers are the most disappointing?

The Land Rover Discovery Sport got the lowest scores in terms of reliability, owner satisfaction, and overall ride quality. On one hand, it's one of the cheaper Land Rovers available, usually costing between $43,200-$48,500.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is the least off-road-worthy vehicle in the lineup on
Consumer Reports
' list, but it's still decent. Seat access is easy for all three rows, but some of the seats themselves have some problems. The front seats are uncomfortable compared to the ones in the back row, and the optional third row is claustrophobic.
This car's ride quality also fell short of CR's standards. Power delivery from the transmission is unrefined, and there's definitely nothing athletic about this SUV's handling.
The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque also failed to impress CR testers. There's a noticeable delay after you step on the gas pedal and the transmission often doesn't shift smoothly. The suspension is too stiff to provide a comfortable ride, and the infotainment system's response times are slow.
However, not everything about the Range Rover Evoque is a disappointment. It's actually a bit faster than the Discovery (once it gets going) and has better braking power.

The Land Rover Discovery actually got a decent road test score from CR. The peppy six-cylinder engine combined with the quiet cabin and air suspension create a truly satisfying, comfortable ride. In addition to multiple terrain drive modes, the Discovery has low-range gearing for light rock-crawling.
The interior is upscale, though seat comfort in the rear rows is of middling quality. Like many other Land Rover SUVs, this one also suffers from a frustrating infotainment interface.
The Land Rover Defender performs well overall, and it's predicted to please the majority of its owners. Available as either a two-door or four-door model, it offers smooth and fast powertrains with best-in-class off-roading.
However, the Land Rover Defender's mileage is only 18 mpg combined city/highway. Body lean is also a problem, as well as the usual technology grievances. This Land Rover is also typically the most expensive model, selling for as high as $114,000.

Are Land Rovers worth the money?

Typically, the best Land Rovers are the ones with higher price tags. They have more satisfying powertrains, better off-roading abilities, and extra technology on board.
Unfortunately, those Land Rovers often have too many flaws to justify that premium price. Pretty much every Land Rover also has a below-average reliability rating, meaning it will need repairs sooner rather than later. Even so, the undeniable charm of these rugged luxury cruisers often keeps drivers coming back for more.
