background
Land Rover enthusiasts have been waiting for information about the upcoming 2023 Range Rover Sport (RRS), and we’ve finally had a glimpse of the yet-to-be-debut Range Rover.
The 2023 Range Rover Sport features a new platform, an extended wheelbase that allows for a three-row SUV model with a plug-in hybrid and full battery-electric version (BEV).
The RRS also sports several
car modifications
from the outgoing model, particularly on the front and rear ends. With the newly redesigned exterior and PHEV and fully electric powertrains, the vehicle is expected to pose stiff competition to the likes of the Porsche Cayenne.
Besides these advantages, some

A brief description of the 2023 Range Rover design

As noted on
Motor 1
, the SUV's front fascia seems to be losing some camouflage compared to other prototypes that Land Rover has released. It looks similar to the outgoing model, but if you zoom into it critically, you'll notice redesigned features, such as the new shape of the headlights and air intakes, and bumper.
Things appear more disguised on the rear end, but it's still easy to notice the two oval exhaust outlets in the diffuser.
Unlike the previous prototypes, the 2023 Range Rover Sport probably provides the best idea of how the car's fascia will appear upon release, but Motor 1 believes that Land Rover will make changes to the taillights.
The UK-based automaker's evolutionary design is relatively straightforward. It will build the car on an MLA-Flex platform that you'll find in the standard RR. The new wheelbase allows for three-row seating in the long-body (LWB) version. It also enhances the car's performance on the road as it adds stiffness to the rig.
The 2023 Range Rover Sport is expected to cost $71,000.

Plug-in hybrid and full battery-electric powertrains

Land Rover also extended the wheelbase for the standard (SWB) and long-body (LWB) RR model, which increases the legroom and allows for electrification. The car manufacturer changed the car's suspension from an "integral link" multilink to a five-link setup, which enabled the fitment of a transverse electric motor in the BEV version.
As we wait for Land Rover to provide the specifics of the BEV's underfloor battery, there's also a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the 2023 Range Rover Sport.
As noted on
Car and Driver
, the PHEV comes with a significantly larger battery rated at 31.8 kWh. The car is expected to meet EPA's range rating of 48 miles with that battery, a huge leap from the outgoing model's 19 miles.
Before the PHEVs arrive, in-market shoppers will have to settle for the internal combustion models.
The P400 features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that delivers 395 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, taking the car from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The P530 comes with a twin-turbo V8 that provides 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque; it only takes 4.4 seconds to reach 60 mph.

What other cars is the 2023 Range Rover Sport up against?

Some of the 2023 Range Rover Sport’s top rivals are the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5-M, the latter from which the LWB Range Rover borrowed its engine.
While the SWB features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, the Cayenne comes with a turbocharged V6 that cranks out between 355 hp and 434 hp. The car has a higher acceleration power, going from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds.
The Cayenne E-Hybrid marries a turbocharged V6 with an electric motor to produce an impressive 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, although the Cayenne GTS gets a 460-hp twin-turbo V8 that releases head-turning grunt and growl and incredible acceleration.
