Jeep Scored Low on Consumer Reports, and the Wrangler Might Be to Blame

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most popular Jeeps, however, it received a low Consumer Reports score which is a big reason why they were ranked as the worst car brand.

background
With models like the popular Cherokee and Wagoneer,
Jeep
is one of the most recognizable and beloved names in SUVs. Because of this, it might come as a surprise to some that Consumer Reports currently ranks Jeep low among car brands.
In fact, out of their recent ranking of 32 car brands,
Consumer Reports
listed Jeep as the current worst car brand. This ranking is based on the Overall Scores that Consumer Reports gives all vehicles it reviews. Jeep had the lowest Overall Score, and one vehicle, in particular, dragged the brand down.

The Jeep Wrangler had the lowest Consumer Reports score

It might come as a surprise to some, but the Jeep Wrangler has received very low review scores from Consumer Reports. According to the
Consumer Reports
review of the 2022 Wrangler, the SUV earned an overall score of just 28 out of 100.
The Wrangler particularly struggled with the road test portion of the Consumer Reports review, where it earned only a 36 out of 100. This negative review came largely from the fact that the Jeep was simply not fun or comfortable to drive.
Consumer Reports did not think that it lived up to the potential that SUVs have right now.
This also gets into the issue that the Wrangler is not easy to physically get in or out of. For Wrangler fans, this is nothing new, as the almost old-fashioned setup of the Wrangler is part of the charm.
For the average driver, though, this makes the Wrangler inaccessible, which doesn't help when the SUV already struggles in other areas.

One bad Jeep is not enough to ruin the brand's overall score, though.
Low vehicle scores overall resulted in Jeep ranking last in Consumer Reports' rankings, and the Jeep Gladiator is another low-scoring model. According to
Consumer Reports
, the Gladiator earned a 38 out of 100.
The Gladiator is Jeep's signature pickup, but it’s really just a Wrangler with an added bed and other changes to transform it into a pickup.
Because of this, the Gladiator struggles with many of the same issues as the Wrangler. It is just as difficult to access as the Wrangler, and it doesn't handle well either.
However, the Gladiator is in many ways better than the Wrangler, according to Consumer Reports. It earned a better road test score and received praise for aspects like its towing ability.

It's also important to note that not every Jeep has been getting negative reviews from Consumer Reports. The 2022 Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L earned better scores than the Wrangler or Gladiator.
The Cherokee earned an Overall Score of 54 out of 100, which isn't great, but it is still an average score. Drivers approve of the Cherokee for its trim options, and Consumer Reports noted that it has impressive acceleration.
Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee L had an Overall Score of 63. This Jeep had a great road test score of 75 out of 100.
