background
Honda
SUVs have been leading in the compact crossover market, with the CR-V and HR-V leading the way.
However, in the recent past, there has been an onslaught from competitors, with models like the Hyundai Kona,
Mazda CX30
, and Kia Seltos fighting for a share of the market.
The 2023 Honda HR-V promises to turn the tables with a redesign. It is believed that the automaker is going for curb appeal and creating a compelling powertrain like the competing brands explained above. Let's look at what is expected in the new model.

What is the 2023 Honda HR-V engine like?

According to
Car and Driver,
the European version of the 2023 Honda HR-V will have a hybrid powertrain like the Accord and Insight models.
However, Honda has not announced what engine it will be installing in the North American models. Industry pundits expect it to be like the 2022 Civic Si 200-hp, four-cylinder, 2.0L engine or the turbocharged 180-hp engine.
It is also expected that the vehicle will have improved suspension and traction control to give it a better and smoother ride in off-road conditions. Looking at the sketches released of the 2023 Honda HR-V, it shows a vehicle cruising on the snow at high speeds, leading many pundits to speculate about an all-wheel-drive drivetrain.

2023 Honda HR-V design, interior, and comfort

It is expected that the carmaker will enhance the curb appeal of the model by making it more contemporary and rugged. The current model is very practical and has a roomy cabin but lacks the sleek feel that you would expect from a high-end SUV.
As
Autotrader
reveals, the new model looks more like a modern SUV with a hatchback feel similar to the BMW 1 Series
It has a broad hexagonal front grille, larger wheels, and small flares. The roofline is also expected to be more conventional and not the sloping one in the current model.
However, there are practical features that the carmaker may consider transferring to the new model. This includes the Magic Seat, a feature that allows the backbench to flip and fold low near the floor to create more space for cargo.
As for entertainment, it is expected that the 2023 Honda HR-V will retain the touchscreen infotainment system along with connectivity features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
In addition, the car is likely to come with such goodies as SiriusXM radio, onboard Wi-Fi, and allow for in-dash navigation.

2023 Honda HR-V safety features

All the standard driver-assistance technologies are expected in the 2023 Honda HR-V. The carmaker may decide to add some premium features such as adaptive cruise control and advanced lane-keeping assist.
Automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control are some of the standard safety features on the current model, as stated by
IIHS
.
The outgoing model is sufficiently safe with a " good " crashworthiness rating and a similar rating for the structure and safety cage. This new model is likely to improve on this.
