These Are the Best Selling Cars in Europe Right Now

Most of the best-selling cars in Europe are not popular or available in the U.S. like the Dacia Sandero.

It's no secret that many drivers enjoy European
car brands
in the United States. Without our European friends, we wouldn't have snazzy cars from Volvo, BMW, Porsche… the list goes on!
Some of the most historic supercars, from automakers like Ferrari and Lamborghini, also come from across the pond.
However, when it comes to the most popular cars, it's clear that Americans have different preferences. Over here, pickup trucks like the Ford F-150 are the best-selling types of cars. Here are some of the models that European drivers adore this year, courtesy of

What's the best-selling car in Europe?

The Dacia Sandero is currently the most popular European car, with 17,558 units sold in January. With the base trim only retailing for £7,995, it's also the cheapest car you can buy in Britain.
However, the base engine struggles to accelerate with its 65 horsepower. There are two other engines to choose from, but the best one still only makes 100 horsepower.
Even so, the Dacia Sandero's handling has reportedly been improved thanks to its redesign this year. Autocar says the newest model gets better traction and the manual transmission is easier to use. An adjustable steering wheel was also added.
The Dacia Sandero sports some LED headlights for 2022 to complement its sharper body lines. Drivers who buy the higher trims can also enjoy an eight-inch touchscreen.

You might have seen these European favorites on American roads

The Volkswagen Golf scored fourth place on this list with a January sales total of 14,483. This small sedan has a spacious and upscale interior, though its 147-horsepower engine doesn't have much pep.
Due to sluggish sales, the standard Volkswagen Golf was discontinued in the U.S. after the 2021 model year.
However, Americans can still enjoy
other Volkswagen Golf variants
like the GTI. This hot hatch has 241 horsepower thanks to its turbocharged engine, along with sportier driving manners. The GTI is also apparently a hot seller in Europe.
The Ford Puma also made this list, selling 12,159 units last January. While it was technically never sold in the States, it's heavily inspired by the Ford Fiesta. UK drivers appreciate the Puma's fun handling, neat exterior styling, and affordable trim lineup.

There's a new Toyota Yaris overseas

The American-bred Yaris (actually a rebadged Mazda 2) largely flew under the radar thanks to its puny engine and bare-bones interior. The all-new Toyota Yaris Cross is thriving in Europe, selling 12,456 units in January.
Now a compact hatchback, the Yaris Cross also comes with an optional hybrid system. It produces up to 114 horsepower and it's the only model that comes with AWD. The gasoline-only Yaris Cross makes do with a terrain management system, plus 120 horsepower.
While it looks sleek and promises feisty handling, we probably won't see it on American shores.

Do European cars have higher insurance premiums?

A car's nationality doesn't directly impact your insurance rates unless you've imported it from another country. However, a car's make is still one of the many variables that ultimately decide your coverage's price.
For example, a Chevy might cost an average of $1,706 each year to insure. The average driver of a Ford car pays
$1,665 each year
on car insurance. Factors like your state of residence, age, and vehicle model can all affect your premium prices.
No matter where your car comes from, it's always possible to find affordable car insurance through the
