background
The Ford Maverick
: A truck so popular, some models have
been sold out for nearly a year
. With pre-ordering set to begin this summer, getting the statistics behind the Ford Maverick is essential. It’s a compact truck with multi-purpose potential and an appealing starting price at $19,995.
But what about the
Ford
Maverick’s towing capacity? Thanks to the 4K towing package, the Ford Maverick’s towing capacity is increased by 2,500 lbs, bringing its hauling power up to 4,050 lbs. For those interested in a compact pickup that can also put in some serious work, the Ford Maverick could be right up their alley.
The Ford Maverick is a small, but capable truck.

Details behind the 4K towing package for the Ford Maverick

Adding a new level of efficiency to the Maverick is a more heavy-duty towing package offered by Ford. If the Maverick wasn’t already affordable enough (for a new vehicle),
the 4K package
only costs an additional $745. Some of the additional items and features included are:
  • A transmission oil cooler
  • An upgraded radiator
  • An upgraded cooling fan
  • A lower-geared axle
  • A 2-inch trailer hitch receiver
  • A seven-pin trailer wiring plug
  • an integrated trailer brake controller

Testing out the Ford Maverick’s towing capacity

MotorTrend
decided to test out both the Ford Maverick’s towing capacity in both the Hybrid model (which has a 2,000 lb towing capacity) and the EcoBoost model, which is the only one in which the 4K package is available. The results were interesting:
  • While towing 4,000 pounds, the EcoBoost Maverick displayed 11 mpg, which was lower than expected by the test drivers
  • The Hybrid Maverick was able to pull 2,000 lbs while maintaining an average of 30 mpg
For potential buyers, this translates into one essential point. The first is that while the EcoBoost model can certainly pull up to 4,000 lbs (approximately one car on a trailer, for reference), it’s going to guzzle gas like no one’s business.
It’s a subtle reminder that while this compact truck can be put to work, the Ford Maverick’s towing capacity isn’t the highlight of its features.

Should the Ford Maverick’s towing capacity hold back potential buyers?

Not at all—a formidable towing capacity isn’t really what the Ford Maverick is catering, anyways. It’s certainly worth buying the 4K package for an extra $745, though. This will not only add to the Ford Maverick’s towing capacity, but will also help to add resale value to your vehicle in the future. Those who are looking for a smaller-sized pickup, but with more pulling power, should look towards the Ford Ranger for a hardier solution.
