background
The latest model year of the BMW 8-Series is getting some minor upgrades that will make a major difference. Although there are no big changes, like a brand new engine or a total exterior redesign,
BMW
has made small cosmetic changes and updated technology to give drivers a better experience overall with the 8-Series.

What is the BMW 8-Series?

Before we jump into the upgrades for the BMW 8-Series, let’s talk a bit about the history of this car.
According to
Car and Driver
, the BMW 8-Series had laid dormant from 1999 all the way until 2019. In 2019, BMW decided to bring the 8-Series back to life, hitting the market with a coupe, convertible, and a four door “Gran Coupe” in the lineup. Since the 2019 comeback, the 8-Series has remained largely unchanged.
The 8-Series has three different engine choices, depending on the trim, and they will remain the same in 2023. Drivers have the option to choose between a turbocharged 3-liter I-6 engine with 335 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that produces 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, and the top of the line engine, a V8 that makes 612 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

What’s new for the 2023 BMW 8-Series?

Most of the upgrades for the 2023 BMW 8-Series center around minor cosmetic and technology changes. Although drivers will have to look closely to see them, the exterior changes provide a fresh look to the 8-Series.
According to
MotorTrend
, the biggest visual change in the 8-Series is the updated grille. The grille now features U-shaped bars, and is illuminated, giving the exterior of the car a more futuristic feel. However, drivers can turn off the illumination feature if they choose.
BMW
describes the illuminated kidney shaped grille as making a “dramatic first impression” and states it makes for an exciting redesign while still keeping the classic BMW element intact.
Also new on the exterior of the 8-Series is new sideview mirrors, two new wheel options, and five new paint colors including original blue, red, and violet. Plus there’s the option to upgrade to the Sport Package, which adds black accents to the car. Combine all these small exterior changes and by the end, the 8-Series just might look like a brand new car.
On the interior, drivers can expect to find an upgraded infotainment system that is now 12.3-inch instead of 10.25 inches. Plus, there’s a special edition art car available in the lineup.
