The 2022 Land Cruiser Will Start A New Era of Large SUVs

Toyota has been busy developing EVs like the Mirai, but not so busy that they couldn’t give the Land Cruiser some love. Toyota has revamped its Land Cruiser for 2022, the first big update the model has gotten in seven years.

Toyota
makes a lot of great cars that can stand the test of time, and one of Toyota's longest running models is the Land Cruiser. This big SUV from Toyota is a reliable workhorse, but the 2022 Land Cruiser may be more than that. Here's a look at the 2022 Land Cruiser, how Toyota's given it a massive makeover, and what it all means for
Jerry
drivers.

What's new with the 2022 Land Cruiser?

According to
Motor1
, Toyota recently gave the Land Cruiser a redesign after seven years. The biggest and most impactful change to the Land Cruiser happened under the hood. Instead of a V8 engine, Toyota gave the 2022 Land Cruiser a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.
This new and powerful engine gets 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. It will allow the Land Cruiser to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.8 seconds. If you put your foot down, the big Toyota SUV can even hit 130 mph. In terms of towing, this engine will allow the Toyota to tow about 7,700 pounds of stuff.
This new V6 engine will be thirsty though, as it gets about 19 mpg combined. That's not a great fuel economy, especially when
gas prices
are so high. Toyota didn't just give the 2022 Land Cruiser a big, new engine though.

The 2022 Land Cruiser has a comfortable and luxurious interior

Toyota also gave the big SUV a lot of upgrades inside the cabin. The Land Cruiser is still a rugged and practical car, but Toyota improved its tech features significantly. It now has a 12.3-inch horizontal touch screen, for example.
The new Land Cruiser also has some nice comfort features. Its center console, when opened, has a cooler. Toyota gave the 2022 Land Cruiser some premium materials too, but some things stayed the same. The big Toyota can seat five people, but just like with the older models, the rear seats can feel cramped for tall passengers.
Toyota did upgrade how the car feels to drive, however. As such, the new Land Cruiser is more comfortable to drive around in. It's easier to use the brakes than before, and it handles better too. Since the Land Cruiser can go off-road, Toyota still offers it with all-wheel drive.

What the 2022 Land Cruiser means for drivers

Unfortunately for Americans, due to the poor sales from the older Land Cruiser models, Toyota will not be selling the 2022 Land Cruiser in the U.S. The Land Cruiser, which had a starting price tag that was almost $80,000, used to be Toyota's flagship SUV. Now, the Sequoia is.
There is still some good news, though. The 2022 Land Cruiser is Toyota's practical yet luxurious SUV. Many of the upgrades that Toyota's given the car will also be upgrades that Toyota will give to other cars in its lineup.
This is true for new model years of the Sequoia, as well as new model years of Toyota's other SUVs. Large SUVs from other automakers may also take notes from the 2022 Land Cruiser.
