compared two trims of the GMC Canyon (the Crew Cab SLE V6-Cyl 8-Speed Automatic and the Crew Cab SLE 4-Cyl 6-Speed Automatic) with two trims of the Chevy Colorado (the Crew Cab LT V6-Cyl 8-Speed Automatic and the Crew Cab LT 4-Cyl 6-Speed Automatic) and found various similarities among all trims. For starters, every trim earned an overall score of either a 44 or 45, which is pretty average in the world of Consumer Reports. It’s likely the owner satisfaction ratings (1 out of 5) and reliability ratings (2 out of 5) seen across the board pulled all scores down.
In better news, all trims scored fairly highly in the performance categories. The V6 engine models on both cars scored a four out of five on acceleration, transmission, and braking. Plus, the acceleration time on both from 0 to 60 mph was 7.5 seconds.
Additionally, all four trims come standard with safety features such as rear view camera, anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and daytime running lights. Some other notable similarities are that both cars have 8-speed automatic and 6-speed automatic transmissions available, seat up to five passengers, good trailering capabilities at 7,000 lbs each, and have both four-wheel drive and rear wheel drive.

When it comes to differences, we’ll start off with price. While not a huge discrepancy in price, the differing amounts are always worth noting as many drivers consider price as the most important factor when purchasing a new car.
Essentially, the Chevy Colorado will likely be a few thousand dollars cheaper than the GMC Canyon. The Colorado starts around $25,435 and goes up to around $44,200 depending on trim. On the other hand, the GMC Canyon starts around $26,800 and can reach up to $45,000, depending on trim.
