We car writers spend a lot of time researching and comparing the best
car brands
, including which
country has the best brands
. However, we chose to take a different route for this piece.
Recently,
Consumer Reports
released a detailed analysis of the most and least liked car brands in America. Instead of focusing on the top two car brands, Tesla and Porsche, we decided to take a closer look at the least liked brands: Cadillac and Infiniti.

How did Consumer Reports evaluate the least liked car brands?

Each year, Consumer Reports conducts a survey of new car owners asking if they'd buy the same car again if given the opportunity. They do this for dozens of different car models and sum the scores together to rate each brand. In 2022, the rating was based on over 300,000 survey respondents driving year-end models between 2019-2022.
But the analysis doesn't end there. Included in the final score are CR's own metrics that measure safety, reliability, comfort, and other factors. Some car brands were excluded for not having a large enough sample size in the survey.

Cadillac and Infiniti are the two least liked car brands

At the end of the analysis, Cadillac and Infiniti were in last place. Cadillac had a final score of 56/100. Owners of this domestic luxury brand were very satisfied with its style, driving, and comfort. However, they were disappointed in Cadillac's in-car electronic features. Cadillac's value rating was a measly 1/5.
Coming in dead last is Infiniti, which had an overall score of 43/100. Much like Cadillac, Infiniti scored quite well in driving, comfort, and style. But their customers were also unimpressed with the in-car electronics and value of the car.

In defense of Cadillac and Infiniti

While Cadillac and Infiniti did poorly in this Consumer Reports satisfaction survey, we wouldn't go as far as saying these brands should be avoided at all costs. For the right driver, a Cadillac or Infiniti may be the perfect fit.
Both of these brands serve as a status symbol for their owners. If you're trying to keep up with the Joneses, then a new Caddy or Infiniti might be the right choice for your next car. After all, both brands ranked exceptionally well for style. Not to mention they also did well in the driving and comfort categories.
Respondents to the survey were disappointed with the in-car electronics of both brands. But these can be easily upgraded with a nicer trim or aftermarket add-ons. Upgrading the in-car electronics is far easier to do than improving any other metric on the survey.
The biggest complaint for most customers was value. Sure, a new Cadillac or Infiniti won't be cheap. But these brands aren't symbols of frugality.
