To apply for a replacement title in Delaware, start by gathering all the information and documents you’ll need to complete the application. Make sure you have all of the following:

A completed

Application for Duplicate Title (MV213)

Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Make, Model, Year, and Color of the vehicle

Owner’s name and address

Owner’s signature

Driver’s license or ID number

License Plate Number (all prefixes such as PC, C, CL, MC, etc. are needed before the numbers)

Expiration date of the registration

An odometer disclosure statement saying that you have recorded the correct odometer reading

If there is a lien on your vehicle, the lienholder must satisfy or acknowledge that a duplicate title is being applied for by completing one of the bottom sections on the MV213 form. The lienholder can also prepare a separate lien release on their letterhead with the following information:

Vehicle Information

Lien satisfaction

Signature of the authorized agent

If the bottom of the MV213 isn’t completed to show that the lien holder acknowledges the duplicate, they can send a letter stating the need for the duplicate. The duplicate with the lien on the title will then be mailed to the lienholder.

A new lien can only be placed on the title as a supplementary title after the duplicate title is issued.

How to apply for a replacement title in Delaware

You can apply for a duplicate title in person or by mail.

To apply for a duplicate Delaware title, you will need to download the Application for Duplicate Title (MV213) form and follow the steps below:

Complete required fields on the form

Vehicle owner needs to fill in the driver’s license number and sign the application

If using the Power of Attorney to sign, an original Notarized Power of Attorney must be included

If authorizing someone to process the request on your behalf, they must provide their driver’s license number and sign their name on the form

Lienholder to complete relevant block on the bottom of the form, if applicable

Include a copy of the owner’s license with the duplicate request form, if sent by mail

Include self-addressed and stamped envelope, if sent by mail

Include payment (check or money order), if sent by mail

Include a copy of the driver’s license of the authorized individual, if applicable
