background
In Alaska, drivers who purchase eligible electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles can save up to $8,500 with the federal and state incentive programs.
Real talk: 90% of the country’s transportation energy consumption comes from petroleum—and transportation is the leading emitter of greenhouse gases nationwide at 29%.
Many states offer incentives to encourage more people to choose electric and hybrid vehicles. These are usually rebates, tax credits, or discounts that can help make the cost of an electric vehicle more affordable.
There are federal rewards and state-specific incentives. To help you understand, the

How much can I save with the Alaska electric vehicle incentive?

Alaska Power and Telephone offers a $1,000 rebate to any residential customers who own a new or used EV with a minimum battery size of 16 kilowatts. The state also offers a reduced electricity rate—via Alaska Electric and Power—to help offset the costs of charging an electric vehicle.
Finally, there is a $200 bill credit per residential charging station available via the
Chugach Electric Association
in exchange for sharing information on your vehicle.
Alaska drivers can also access the federal tax credit, which could save you up to $7,500 depending on your vehicle’s battery capacity.

How to get the Alaska electric vehicle incentive

To be eligible for the discounted electricity rate, you must be a customer of Alaska Power. To access the EVSE credit with the Chugach Electric Association, you must share information on plug-in electric vehicles, EVSEs, and average miles driven per year.
The vehicle rebate is available for new or used EVs—and owned or leased PVs—with a minimum battery size of at least 16 kilowatts. Learn more about state incentive programs through the
