Why was my water damage claim denied?

Our basement was flooded recently after a series of heavy rains in our city. We luckily didn’t lose too much, but there are some repairs we’ll need to make—which our home insurance won’t help with, I just learned. Why would the water damage claim be denied?

I’m so sorry to hear your basement flooded but glad to hear the damage wasn’t too extensive. Unfortunately, it’s rare for a home insurance policy on its own to cover
flood damage
when the water source came from outside your home, which could be the reason your claim was denied. You usually have to purchase separate flood insurance for this.
Still, you should review your
home insurance
policy to see what exactly it says about water and/or flood damage, then reach out to your insurance company to ask them to explain why your claim was denied.
If you don’t already have flood insurance protection, you can protect yourself from future damage with a policy through FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program or a private insurance provider.
If you decide you also need to update your home insurance policy, the
Jerry
app can help you make the process quick and easy! You can even bundle with your
car insurance
for added savings.
All you have to do is download the app, enter your information, and you can start reviewing competitive quotes.
