Why does my leg hurt after driving?

I have almost an hour-long commute one way. It can be even longer with traffic, and I’ve recently noticed that my leg hurts when I drive. Why would driving cause leg pain?

I’ve been in your shoes with an extra-long commute, and it’s not fun! Your leg may hurt after driving if you have sciatica. The condition can cause your leg to become fatigued from controlling the brakes and accelerator for long periods.
Although you may not suffer from sciatica, the same spot is activated when you drive. Stress is placed on your sciatic nerve, which can cause stiffness and aches. Arguably even worse would be a situation where your foot or leg falls asleep.
All hope isn’t lost, though. Here are some simple tips to help you put your best foot forward on the road:
  • Use a wedge cushion
  • Take breaks
  • Stretch before and after driving
  • Use a lumbar pillow
  • Bring or wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing
It’s important to prioritize your health, which in turn, will put your safety at the forefront. A stiff or sleepy leg may not seem like a big deal, but it can be enough to lead to a collision.
It’s always a good idea to prepare for the unexpected, which is where the
