Is it illegal to park in an electric car space?
My workplace has priority spots for electric cars, but I recently noticed some gas-powered cars parking in them. Is it illegal for a gas car to park in an electric car space?

Like most areas with parking restrictions, such as EV spaces, accessible parking spaces, or any otherwise reserved parking spot, it is unlawful for non-authorized vehicles to park in or obstruct that space.
There are some specific laws regarding internal combustion engine or ICE vehicles parking in electric charging spaces know at “Anti-ICEing” laws. States that have Anti-ICEing laws include:
- Arizona
- California
- Florida
- Hawaii
- Washington
- Oregon
- Illinois
- Connecticut
- Rhode Island
- Massachusetts
- New Hampshire
- Colorado
- Nevada
- North Dakota
- New York
- Virginia
- Maryland
Even if you don’t see your state on this list, the private company in charge of the parking lot or charging station typically reserves the right to fine or remove any unauthorized vehicles from that space.
