Why does my Honda Accord lose power while I’m driving?

I drive a 2019 Honda Accord and have recently noticed a slight hesitation while driving on the highway like my car isn’t getting enough power or something. What would cause my Accord to lose power like that?

Sorry to hear that you’re experiencing car trouble! Losing power while driving isn’t anyone’s notion of ideal and can actually pose a serious safety hazard if the condition worsens. Unfortunately, your Accord’s loss of power can be caused by a number of things:
  • Vacuum leak: vacuum leaks in the engine can mess with the computer’s ability to control the air-to-fuel ratio, potentially causing power loss
  • Catalytic converter: if the converter is clogged or damaged, the engine does not receive proper airflow, resulting in loss of power
  • Ignition system: a malfunctioning ignition system can result in power loss as well as start-up issues
  • Faulty fuel pump and/or filter: a worn-out pump or clogged filter can prevent the proper flow of fuel to your engine and result in a noticeable loss of power
  • Airflow sensor: a failing air sensor can result in the wrong signals being sent to the engine’s computer, resulting in power loss while accelerating
Due to there being multiple possible causes, it is recommended that you take your vehicle to a mechanic as soon as possible after you start noticing a loss of power when driving.
Taking care of your car’s maintenance is important—but so is making sure you’re paying the right price for your insurance. Licensed
