I’ve heard you’re supposed to use a heavier grade of engine oil during the summertime since oil can apparently thin out in high temperatures. What kind of engine oil is best to use in the summer?

You heard correctly—using a slightly thicker grade of engine oil in the summer is typically best for your car, since higher-viscosity oils perform better in scorching summer temps.
Check your owner’s manual to see what kind of oil your manufacturer recommends, but generally speaking, these are the best engine oils for summer:
- Valvoline Advanced Full Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil
- AMSOIL XL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
- Castol Edge Advanced Full Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil
