A 2015 MINI Countryman has a total engine oil capacity of 4.4 quarts, or roughly 4.2 liters, and requires full-synthetic 5W-30 motor oil.
Regular motor oil changes are a simple way to keep your car's engine running smoothly, but they can also drive up your annual car expenses if you pay someone else to do them. For that reason, it's crucial to learn how to perform simple maintenance procedures on your own, such as changing your own oil or rear differential fluid.
Of course, you can’t change your oil if you don’t know how much oil you actually need. That’s why licensed broker and

2015 MINI Countryman engine oil capacity

Regardless of whether you have a 2015 MINI Countryman with a 1.5L or 1.6L engine, the engine oil capacity will always be 4.4 quarts, or roughly 4.2 liters.
This is not to be confused with the engine’s displacement, or the aforementioned 1.5L/1.6L space occupied by the engine cylinders—both measurements are engine-related, but oil capacity only ever refers to the amount of oil needed to fill up the engine’s oil reservoir.

What kind of oil does the 2015 MINI Countryman need?

A 2015 MINI Countryman requires full-synthetic 5W-30 motor oil—keep reading to find out what those numbers actually mean.
The first number, “5”, refers to the oil’s winter rating and tells us what the oil’s viscosity is like in extremely low temperatures. The lower the number, the better the oil will perform in cold climes, as the oil will still be able to flow with relative ease.
The second number, on the other hand, tells us what the oil’s viscosity is like once the engine reaches normal operating temperatures of 212°F or higher—oils with a “30” weight rating will be quite thin at these high temps.
For your convenience, we’ve included the two brand-specific oil recommendations from the owner's manual below:

How often to change the oil on a 2015 MINI Countryman

Despite using longer-lasting, full-synthetic motor oil, it is recommended that you change your 2015 MINI Countryman’s oil every 4,000 to 6,000 miles, or roughly twice per year. Keep in mind, however, that this is based on normal driving habits and conditions—you may have to change your oil more frequently if you regularly drive in stop-and-go traffic, routinely make short trips, or often drive on dirt roads.
Of course, you should still check your oil once or twice a month to avoid potentially damaging your engine—and when you do, you’ll want to look out for the following signs that your vehicle is in imminent need of an oil change:
  • The oil itself has turned a dark brown or black color
  • You begin noticing
    unusual noises
    coming from the engine
  • The oil feels gritty or grainy to the touch
  • There is an oily, smoky, or burning smell coming from the engine
  • Your Countryman’s overall performance declines

How to change your oil and oil filter

If you plan on changing your oil at home, you’ll need the following tools: a socket wrench, an oil drain pan, and a filter wrench to remove the oil filter. Once you have all of your tools assembled—along with a new oil filter and 5 quarts of synthetic 5W-30 motor oil—you’ll want to turn your car on and let it run for a few minutes to allow the engine to reach normal operating temperatures.
Once the engine has come up to temperature, switch your vehicle off, open the hood, and do the following:
  1. Locate the oil reservoir and take the cap off.
  2. Place the drain pan below the oil reservoir drain hole. Remove the drain bolt and washer with the socket wrench. Allow the oil to drain into the pan below.
  3. While you wait for the oil to drain completely, remove the old oil filter with the filter wrench.
  4. Reinstall the new oil filter.
  5. Install a new washer and replace the bolt once the oil has completely drained. To find out the recommended tightness, consult your owner's manual.
  6. Put fresh oil in your engine and then tighten the oil cap.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary. Once the engine has warmed up, check for leaks.
As long as you follow the aforementioned instructions carefully, the
oil warning/pressure light
on your 2015 MINI Countryman’s dashboard should shut off automatically.
