Where is the Hyundai Sonata OBD port location?
I’m afraid my Hyundai Sonata is on its last leg, as the check engine light just came on. I want to check out the issue before I take it to a mechanic so I can start thinking through my budget if I need repairs. Where is the OBD port on a Sonata?

Good call! It may be a simple fix—but older cars tend to have more expensive repairs, so
buying a new car
might be worth it for you. For most Hyundai Sonata models, the OBD port is located to the lower left of the steering wheel, right above the foot pedals. Don’t own an OBD-II scanner? Don’t worry—you don’t have to go out and purchase one. Most auto parts stores like AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto Parts will let you use one for free. They’ll also provide you with data to show your mechanic if
repairs
are needed. If you have access to a scanner but you’re not sure how to use it, here’s a quick overview of what to do:
- Ensure your Sonata is turned off and remove the plastic cover from your OBD port
- Connect the OBD scanner to your port, then turn your car on
- If prompted, enter any required information like your VIN or mileage
- Record the codes and data so you can relay them to a mechanic
