Where are BMW engines made?

I thought all of BMW’s parts were made in Germany, but my girlfriend says that the engines are made in Britain now. Is that right? Where are BMW engines made?

Your girlfriend is right! BMW is moving production of its combustion engines to other countries like Britain. In addition, BMW intends to produce only electric cars at its German manufacturing plants by the end of 2022.
Here is an overview of which BMW engines are made where:
  • 8-cylinder and 12-cylinder engines: Hams Hall, England
  • Other combustion engines: Steyr, Austria
  • Electric vehicles and components: Germany
