When driving an airbag equipped vehicle, what should you do?
My first car was a 1968 Plymouth Fury. Because it was so old, it had limited features. Now I’m looking for a new car. I’m a bit nervous about driving one with all the new features. What precautions should I take when driving an airbag-equipped vehicle?

When driving an airbag-equipped vehicle, here’s what you should know:
- According to theNHTSA, never get closer than about 10 inches from the airbag to avoid injury should it deploy.
- Adjust the steering wheel so your legs fit comfortably, as many new cars have knee airbags.
- Recline the seat just a bit to keep yourself a safe distance from the airbags.
- Always wear your seat belt.
- Keep a safe driving distance from those in front of you so you don’t get into an accident that can set off the airbags.
- Make sure that young children are properly secured in the vehicle.
- Familiarize yourself with all other safety features so you know what to expect in an accident.
