What’s the difference in leaded and unleaded gas?

My grandma asked me if I could help her find leaded gas for her classic car. It’s been sitting in her garage for years. I don’t get why it matters. What’s the difference in leaded and unleaded gas?

The difference in leaded gas and unleaded gas is that leaded contains tetraethyl lead additives, and it was primarily used by cars with older engines and carburetors.
Leaded gas was developed in the 1920s to raise the octane of standard gasoline.
Unfortunately, leaded gas releases lead into the air and contribute to pollution. While many older vehicles and
classic cars
function better with leaded gas, it is no longer being produced. Most modern vehicles use unleaded gas, thanks to developments in fuel technology and engine design.
If she’s interested, one option is to modify your grandma’s vehicle by adding hardened valves to the cylinder heads and adjusting the ignition timing to accept unleaded gas.
