What’s the cheapest way to paint a car?

I want to repaint my car, but I really don’t want to pay the ridiculous prices that the professionals charge—what’s the cheapest way to paint a car?

In general, the absolute cheapest way to paint your vehicle and still have it look decent is by using Rust-Oleum, either in liquid or spray form—we’ll break down the pricing of the two methods below:
  • Painting with Rust-Oleum and a roller: on average, a quart of Rust-Oleum costs about $10 on Amazon, so using the roller-and-paint method with Rust-Oleum will generally cost about $50 if you figure 3 quarts as enough for a full paint job—if you want to stretch it even further, thin it down with paint thinner
  • Painting with Rust-Oleum and a spray can: if you decide to paint your vehicle with Rust-Oleum in a spray can, be prepared for it to take a couple weeks if you’re doing a full paint job—while this may seem excessive, you can buy a single can on Amazon for as little as $5, so your overall total will be much less than other automotive painting methods
Have fun painting!
