What’s the best route from Alabama to California?

Does it take a long time to drive from Alabama to California? I want to visit one of my old friends from school but I’m not sure if the drive will be worth it or not.

Driving from
Alabama
to California will take about 36 hours of driving in total, even if you take the fastest route via I-40 W. If you’d still like to visit your friends, however, you can make a road trip out of it by following this route:
  1. Spend your first day driving to Shreveport, Louisiana. This is where you’ll spend your first night.
  2. From there, drive on to Fort Worth, Texas for your second night.
  3. Next, drive to El Paso, Texas.
  4. From El Paso, drive to Tucson, Arizona. This is your final overnight stay before you reach California!
  5. From Tucson, drive to San Diego, California. You can keep driving to another city if you’d like, or spend a night in San Diego before moving on!
