What type of oil does a 2001 Honda Accord use?

I need to put oil in my car but I’m not sure what type to use. What kind of oil should I buy for my 2001 Honda Accord?

Your 2001
Honda Accord
uses 5W-20 synthetic oil. You can use conventional oil if need be, but synthetic oils are cleaner and more viscous, helping your engine perform better.
It is important to put the manufacturer’s recommended oil type in your car’s engine. You can find what oils and fluids your car requires by looking in your owner’s manual.
Putting the wrong oil in your engine can lead to loss of power, reduced fuel efficiency, and can even cause your engine to break down. The following is a list of signs that you may have used the wrong oil in your car’s engine:
  • You notice you are filling your gas tank up more often
  • You have trouble starting your car in the cold winter months
  • Your car appears to be leaking oil
  • You smell burning oil when you are driving
  • You hear a ticking sound coming from your engine
If you notice any of the above or have any other reason to believe that you used the wrong type of oil in your car, bring your vehicle to a qualified mechanic immediately. You’ll need to have the oil flushed out of your engine and have your oil filter replaced. Then, the mechanic can fill your engine with the correct oil—in your case, 5W-20.
Using the proper oil today can save you from having to pay for costly engine repairs in the future. Another way to save money is by revisiting your
