What size mattress will fit in a truck bed?
I agreed to transport a friend’s mattress this weekend—I think it’s a full size, but I’m not really sure, and I don’t know the dimensions of it anyway. What size mattress will fit in a truck bed?

Good question! In general, the only size mattress that will fit flat in most standard-sized truck beds is a twin-size mattress—all other mattress sizes will either have to rest on top of the wheel wells or be secured at an angle in order to be safely transported.
Most pickup trucks are designed to be able to fit a 4-foot wide sheet of plywood flat between the wheel wells, giving you roughly 48-inches width-wise. A twin-size mattress has a width of 38-inches and a length of 75-inches, so as long as you have a truck bed that is at least 6 foot 5 inches’—the standard truck bed size—it will fit.
A full-size mattress, on the other hand, is 75 x 54, meaning it won’t fit between the wheel wells but should be able to fit on top of them, as long as you make up a base beneath it for support. You’ll then need to tie down the mattress and secure it so it doesn’t fly out as you drive.
Any other size will likely not fit on top of the wheel wells, and may not fit length-wise either.
