What kind of oil does a 2004 Honda Accord take?

I’ve heard different opinions about what type of oil a car should have. I know it has something to do with temperature and thickness. In your official opinion, what kind of oil does a 2004 Honda Accord take?

Great question! A 2004 Honda Accord should take 5W-20 synthetic motor oil.
Motor oil comes in a variety of types, from synthetic to blended and conventional.
The first number in your motor oil refers to the thickness, or viscosity. A bigger number means a thicker oil. For instance, 10W-30 is thicker than 5W-30.
The W stands for winter and it describes how the oil will perform in a cold start situation. So, 5W means that this type of oil has a better flow in cold conditions.
The second number describes how the oil will perform in normal temperatures.
Thankfully, most drivers don’t need to know all this information! All you need to know is which type of oil and rating is best for your vehicle.
You can find 5W-20 motor oil at most gas stations and auto supply stores. Your car’s oil capacity is just over four quarters, so make sure to purchase enough to fill up the reservoir. Oil keeps well so you can store the extra in a safe place until the next time you need to top up.
Hope this helps!
