What is the Audi A3’s oil type?

I just bought a used Audi A3 and it’s the first European car I’ve ever owned. On other cars, I’ve done all of my own maintenance and I intend to do the same on this car. What type of oil do I need for an Audi A3?

Congrats on the new-to-you ride! If you want to do an oil change, the
Audi A3
’s oil type is SAE 5W-40 full synthetic motor oil. To do a proper oil change, you’ll need at least six quarts of motor oil.
You may also want to try full synthetic European car motor oil that’s specifically formulated for European cars and available from brands such as STP, Pennzoil, Castrol, and Mobil 1.
If SAE 5W-40 isn’t available—which is unlikely—you can use SAE 5W-30. Just make sure that you switch back to SAE 5W-40 on your next oil change.
