My mechanic says I might have a problem with my purge valve. I’ve never heard of this part before. What is a purge valve on a car?

Great question! The purge valve on a car is part of your emissions control system, and it sends fuel vapors back into the engine.
The purge valve is located in the charcoal canister that plugs your fuel system. This part is no larger than the palm of your hand.
The purge valve on a car is an emissions control component that stops harmful fuel vapors from entering the atmosphere. Instead, the purge valve redirects fuel vapors back into the engine for combustion.
Modern vehicles use an electrically operated solenoid to control the purge valve, relaying signals from the engine computer to control the valve.
If your Check Engine Light is illuminated, you may have a purge valve problem. Unfortunately, this issue can be tricky to diagnose.
Hope this helps!
While you wait for the repairs, now might be a good time to review your
car insurance
coverage. Most policies don’t offer protection for wear-and-tear problems, but it’s worth looking at your options. Use the free
