I want to learn how to change the oil in my Civic myself, both to save money and to be self-sufficient. There’s a surprising amount of oil types at the auto parts store. What’s the oil type for a 2008 Honda Civic?

According to the owner’s manual, a 2008
Honda Civic’s
oil type is 5W-20 oil for DX, LX, EX, and EX-L trims. If you have an Si, then 5W-30 is recommended. The numbers refer to the oil’s viscosity. Recommendations will vary depending on the engine type and the climate where you live.
No matter what, make sure the oil you use has the American Petroleum Institute (API) seal and is labeled for gasoline engines.
