Where does Ford get its aluminum?

I’ve read that Ford has started using all-aluminum bodies for its cars to save weight and improve fuel economy. However, I’m all about buying American-made, and I worry that Ford gets its aluminum from abroad. Where does Ford obtain the aluminum for its cars?

If you want to buy American, Ford fits the bill, even with regard to the aluminum it uses in its vehicles. Ford gets its aluminum from two American companies:
  • Arconic: Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Arconic is a publicly traded company that produces lightweight metals such as aluminum for car manufacturing, aeronautics, commercial transit, building and construction, and more.
  • Novelis: Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolled aluminum. Along with the automotive industry, the company also sells aluminum for the production of foil, consumer electronics, aerospace, and beverage cans.
