What if you don't have a car for a driving test?

I’ve finally finished all the behind-the-wheel and in-class instruction, so I’m ready to take my driving test. The only problem is that I don’t have a car on my own. What should I do if I don’t have my own car for a driving test?

You have a few options if you don’t have a car for a driving test:
  • Borrow a car: The easiest option is to borrow a car from a friend or family member. The vehicle owner may need to be present to give permission to use the car.
  • Check with the driving schools in your area: Some driving schools will allow you to take your test in one of their cars at their facility rather than at the DMV.
  • Rent a car: You can use a rental car to take your driving test, but remember that you often need to be 25 years old to rent a car. Be sure to examine it for any potential defects before leaving the rental facility and to bring your

agreement with you to the test.
Keep in mind: Make sure you have proper
car insurance
coverage if you decide to borrow or rent a car for your driving test. Your parents’ insurance should cover you if you borrow their car, but you may need to get
non-owner car insurance
if you borrow a car from a friend.
