Who’s responsible for a rental car flat tire?

I noticed my rental car doesn’t come with a spare tire. If I get a flat tire, will the car rental company take care of things or do I have to pay to fix it?

The driver is typically responsible for a
flat tire
on a rental car. However, most rental car companies offer roadside assistance as an inclusion or add-on in your rental agreement.
Take the following precautions when renting a car:
  • Check the terms of your rental agreement to see if roadside assistance or
    towing and labor coverage
    is included.
  • If not, check what’s covered under the rental company’s optional roadside assistance so you can make an informed decision before purchasing it.
  • Check all four wheels of your rental car before driving it to make sure there aren’t any damages left from the previous driver.
Keep in mind: Some roadside assistance plans like
AAA
will cover whatever car you’re driving—even if it’s a rental! Check the terms of your personal roadside assistance plan to see if it extends to rental cars and covers flat tires.
