What does “no HOA” mean?

I’m looking at houses for sale in my city. Some of the listings’ descriptions will say things like “no HOA.” What does no HOA mean?

Looking at house listings can be fun! “HOA” stands for homeowners association. If a house listing’s description says “no HOA,” that probably means it’s not part of an HOA and wouldn’t be subject to any HOA rules or fees.
If the property in question were part of an HOA, you would have to pay a monthly fee for community property maintenance and your home would be subject to certain rules, like what kinds of changes you can or can’t make to your exterior or landscaping.
