What does awareness mean when you are driving?

I’ve been told that I need to be more aware while driving. I want to be a safe driver, but I’m not exactly sure what this means. What does awareness mean when you’re driving?

Great question! Awareness when you are driving is sometimes called situational awareness. It refers to a driver’s need to actively pay attention to everything on the road, including other vehicles, pedestrians, road signs, and safety hazards in order to avoid accidents.
Lack of awareness plays a factor in roughly 90% of car accidents that are caused by human error. There have also been a lot of campaigns to urge drivers to improve their situational awareness while driving.
To be a more aware driver, you should:
  • Regularly check your blind spots
  • Look left and right often
  • Keep an eye out for children
  • Check your
    side mirrors
and rearview mirror every five to eight seconds
By being more aware while you drive, you will decrease the chance of making a mistake that can result in a car accident.
Once you feel confident that you’re a more aware driver, it’s time to reconsider how much you pay for
