What does 2004 Ford Ranger axle code 97 mean?

The sticker on my truck’s door jamb says “axle code 97.” Can you tell me what 2004 Ford Ranger axle code 97 means?

Sure thing! I’d be happy to tell you what the 2004
Ford Ranger
axle code 97 means. Code 97 means that your Ranger has a 4.10 non-limited slip differential. As I’m sure you noticed, that sticker contains a lot of helpful information about your vehicle, including the exterior paint color, trim package, and (of course) type of axle. A non-limited slip, or “open carrier”, differential sends power to one wheel at a time. So, when one wheel loses traction, the system will shift power to the wheel under the least resistance. If you’re having issues with your differential, you should speak to a mechanic as soon as possible. In the meantime, do you know if your vehicle is protected in case of an accident?
